“Nothing makes me so happy as to observe nature and to paint what I see.” ~ Henri Rousseau
Living on an desolate island hits different. Being separated by sea creates a different atmosphere for anyone – it’s sort of liberating and relaxing seclusion from your everyday life in the city. Here we’ve chosen a few wines to accompany this lifestyle.
In this Box you will get:
Belly Wine Experiment Grisou! Petillant Natural 2021
This is made from 100% Pinot Gris. Attractive perfume with rich, stone fruit scents, some limey characters, dried apples and a touch of patisserie and brioche. The same notes appear on the palate - a little creamy, a touch of youghurty sour-tang in a pleasing sense. Finishes creamy and with cool, fine bubbles. Nice drinking in a fuller, textural style.
Brand Bros 'Monastery' Riesling 2021
This Riesling comes from a prized plot called Klosterschaffnerei (try saying that), featuring a small barn used by Wadgassen’s middle-age monastery. The fifty-year-old vines are planted in limestone-dominant soil, helping preserve acidity even in hot vintages. An incredible wine that delivers plenty of flavour and pretty detail.
Weingut Schmitt Wild Pony 2022
Bianka and Daniel Schmitt's Wild Pony is fun. Made from Riesling, Silvaner and Pinot Blanc. The wildest curvé from the winery smells of ripe vineyard peaches, orange zest and honey. On the palate it has a fine acidity, a slight tannin kick and a nice length. Great drinking flow. German orange wine masterpiece.
Bloody Hill Villages Rosé 2022
A rosé made from Syrah, macerated only one day on skins and then fermented in barrel. It’s a delight. Sappy, savoury-edged, tart and red berry fruited. Pretty perfume, good depth and crunch, indeed, despite the ruby colour only a few pay grades below light red, you could say. A little slickness to texture, then that little rumble of tannin and bitey, chewy acidity rolls through.
Domaine Milan Noah 2021
Noah is a new cuveé from the Milans which is made from locally harvested (and from their own vines) grapes, namely Grenache and Syrah. Savoury and fruity tones combine here - pink peach, crunchy red apple, grapefruit and a hint of caraway, umami vibe going on. Slippery texture with a cherry lift to finish. Simple in a way, but yummy overall.
Francois Ecot Sapucai 2021
After catastrophic weather conditions in Burgundy, François was forced to look further afield for grapes in 2021 so he approached friends over the border in Catalunya. Despite the devastation to his own vines, he was excited to work with these different varieties. A blend of Tempranillo, Syrah, Merlot and Carignan. Medium-bodied, slightly savory & delicious blend.
