This Bingo Box will take you on a journey to the sun-drenched vineyards of Sicily, where tradition and innovation merge to create wines that tell the island's story. From the volcanic slopes of Mount Etna to the coastal breezes of Pantelleria, Sicilian wines capture the spirit of their unique terroir.
In this Box you will get:
Longarico Insolito 2021
A blend of Syrah (80%) and Nerello Mascalese (20%). This is crisp and red fruited, earthy and chock full of saline minerality accompanied by crushed rock and a mix of dried herbs. Flavours and taste match, a little fennel in the palate too, some faint green olive a suggestion in there too. Tannins are fine and feathery but lend pucker and chew.
Longarico All Ombra Dei Pini 2021
All’Ombra dei Pini is an orange wine produced from Catarratto grapes grown on high ground (650m altitude). Aged in French oak barrels for 8 months. Aromas punch! So much going on, loads of lemon, orange peel, grilled and smoky/flinty quality which is immediately very delicious. Salty acidity core, there’s a great deal of freshness to counterbalance the density.
SRC Rivaggi 2020
A cuvée made from Nerello Mascalese (80%) and Grenache (20%). The first grape is obvious, the second comes as something of a surprise. Grenache can be found in many Italian winegrowing regions, but hardly ever under its original name: In Sardinia it is called Cannonau (and is by far the most important red grape variety there), in Tuscany Alicante.
Alessandro Viola Sinfonia di Bianco 2021
An orange wine made from 100% Grillo. Aging in chestnut barrels for 7 months. This is all kiwi and saline minerality, green herbs, lime, green apple and almond. Very complex in its layers of fruit and gentle savouriness, pucker of barely-there tannin and a swish of briny undertow. Refreshing to the max but enough texture to give you the gist that the wine is interesting beyond a gluggable form.
SRC Alberello 2017
Rori Parasiliti's old Nerello-Mascalese-vines, trained as alberello, grow on a one-hectare plot in the contrada (vineyard) Crasà on the northern slopes of Mount Etna. They provide him with grapes that have substance and depth, which he transforms into a radiant and subtle wine that can definitely be counted among the finest and most elegant in Italy.
Abbazia San Giorgio Rosso dei Sesi 2021
Pignatello coming from volcanic soils. A wine that embodies all the Mediterranean splendor of Pantelleria. Fruit-forward wine with notes of red berries and plum, Mediterranean herbs and sea breezes. Anticipates a lean, agile and tasty sip, supported by a measured tannin and a fine sapid-mineral vein. Artisanal wine made with old style methods.
