Loire Valley has to be one of our favourite regions on the map. It’s full of never-ending discoveries, from racy Chenin Blanc to textural and complex Sauvignon Blanc all the way to Cab Franc that possesses this beautiful depth and brightness that is hard to come across anywhere else. We urge you to make a deep dive into deliciousness, you won’t regret it.
In this Box you will get:
Alexandre Giquel Multitude 2022
This is a dry white wine with both texture and personality aplenty. It’s herbal, it’s smoky, it’s (burnt) buttery and it’s slipped with lemony, slatey, pear-like fruit. Superb texture with just a touch of residual sugar to add complexity. The acidity is well integrated and gives this wine such a great lift. A Chenin that can be drunk alone, but would also benefit from a solid food pairing.
Belly Wine Experiment Grisou! Petillant Blanc 2021
This is made from 100% Pinot Gris. Attractive perfume with rich, stone fruit scents, some limey characters, dried apples and a touch of patisserie and brioche. The same notes appear on the palate - a little creamy, a touch of youghurty sour-tang in a pleasing sense. Finishes creamy and with cool, fine bubbles. Nice drinking in a fuller, textural style.
Domaine Grosbois Cuisine de ma Mere 2022
This 2022 vintage Chinon from Nicolas Grosbois has been dubbed ‘Cuisine de ma mere’, or ‘my mother’s kitchen’, as a reference to Nicolas’s childhood spent with his mother in the kitchen. This juicy, fruity red is made entirely from hand-picked Cabernet Franc grapes from 45 year old vines in the Chinon region in the Loire Valley.
Marie & Vincent Tricot Rosé 2022
A fun frisky rosé made from Pinot Noir and Gamay spontaneously fermented in fibreglass with indigenous yeast. Soft, sour cherry, tart beetroot, cranberry and faint hazelnut characters here. Sappy texture, chalky, dry finish, gentle red fruit characters, a bit of blood orange zing and some tomato-y notes. Refreshing, vibrant, pleasing and delightful.
Clos du Tue Bœuf Vin Rouge 2022
A blend of Gamay and Malbec from clay and limestone soils. Whole-cluster carbonic maceration with 4-6 months of aging in stainless steel tanks. Juicy, quaffable vin de soif. Light raspberry nose. Zippy acidity, a brush of light tannin, light body. It’s quite terrific to drink, both for the flavours themselves but also the freedom of it, in the context of structure.
Clos du Tue Bœuf Pineau d’Aunis 2022
From a significant farm in Cheverny comes this Pineau d’Aunis from one of France’s most notable natural wine producers. Organic farming, near 100-year-old vines, light touch in winery and cult status for those that ‘are in the know’. Superb grape variety in the right hands; light, fresh, fruity, spicy, herbal, savoury, and we get all of that here.
