Many hold onto the notion that Australian wine is exclusively dominated by robust Shiraz, and may even believe it was solely limited to that style during earlier years (such as the early 2000s, when this varietal was highly sought-after). Although Shiraz can be exceptional when crafted masterfully, there exists a plethora of wines made in cooler climates that embody an Old World style. We invite you to embark on an exploration of these wines by acquiring this Bingo Box, allowing us to guide you through a rollercoaster of styles.
In this Box you will get:
Lucy Margaux Le Vilain Gris Petillant 2022
Pinot Gris is destemmed and left to rest for four days, allowing the juice to soak up the flavour, colour and a little tannin from the skins. It’s then pressed into 680-litre ceramic eggs and ferments for two weeks until there is the perfect amount of sugar to finish in bottle with a good level of spritz. Rich, ripe stone fruits dominate here with a floral twist on the finish.
Unico Zelo Un Petit 2022
Confirmed with the first sniff, a mix of crushed herbs, peppermint tea and nettle, a hint of pineapple skin. Slippery texture, a little lean but rather cool, like the feel of thick steel. Classic pairing comes to mind but we swear this wine has it in its aromas and flavours - chèvre with a dusting of herbs and drizzled with eucalyptus honey. Stony, dry-bitter finish. So good.
Latta Fresca 2021
This vibrant and lively Sangiovese embodies the distinctive qualities associated with Latta: a delightful lightness, succulent juiciness, and an intensity of flavor taken to the highest level. Harvested from organically cultivated vineyards in Shay's Flat, the grapes were carefully picked at an early stage to enhance acidity and preserve the utmost freshness.
Poppelvej 'Rookie' Grenache 2022
Grenache! This is 100% whole-bunch but with very gentle extraction. Big perfume, sweet cinnamon and redcurrants, brambly blackberry with dried herbs, something a bit ferrous and bloody too. Fleshy texture but very light and pretty to taste. Shows splashes of mixed forest berry, more sweet cinnamon spice.
Borachio Sister Act Still 2021
A blend of Chardonnay & Cabernet Franc. Juicy number. Sloshes around the palate nicely. Sweeter cherry fruit meets touches of sweet spice and blood orange, faint candied ginger, some just-ripe pineapple, pomegranate juice. Yum! Has some pleasing, faint bitter qualities that rein in the fruitier elements to the wine, finishing with a nice, neat, botanical twist with each sip.
Das Juice Red 2022
A typical Bordeaux blend of atypical flavors. Juicy, crunchy, bright, delicious. So delicious! Shows the blue fruits and herbal notes expected but with freshness and great carry through. Yes, on the greener cusp, but it all works out so perfectly and freshly and in tune. Red fruits, brambles and pepper, light tannins but good shape, good squirt of tart acidity too. We love this wine.
