If you’ve watched the Nat Geographic documentary Fire of Love you’d know that volcanoes are beautiful bastards, but they're also ruthless savages. There's something about the Sicilian winemakers though, they can't stay away from these ravishing ruptures. We've found wines from volcanic soils to be rich & concentrated while still retaining a great sense of freshness complemented by glorious minerality, both whites and reds.
Abbazia San Giorgio Orange 2021
Abbazia San Giorgio Cloe Rosato 2021
Marco de Bartoli Sole e Vento 2021
Marco de Bartoli Rosso di Marco 2020
SRC Etna Bianco 2021
SRC Etna Rosso 2018
Orange is a wonderful drink, delicious and fresh, but has an opulence too. Cloe is definitely a food wine, since it has plenty of layers and texture to cope with anything you throw at it.
Marco de Bartoli comes in with two wines – one Grillo, another Pignatello, both fully expressive of grape and terroir where they come from. SRC delivers two versions of indigenous grapes - one made from Carricante, the other Nerello Mascalese. Both are fine and soft in acidity, yet still fresh, with a smooth powdery texture, a citrus juiciness and a pretty long and zesty finish.
