Davide Spillare Bianco Crestan 2020
Latta Good Times 2022
Frederic Brouca Champs Pentus Rouge 2019
Davide has few hectares of Garganega and Merlot on the volcanic soils of Gambellara. His grandfather planted the vines with his father and Davide decided in 2006 to start making wine. The farming is organic and the winemaking is hands off with very clean and precise wines as a result. Bianco Crestan is a crispy, mineral-driven white wine. Energetic, full of life.
Even though Latta is Owen’s more “experimental” project, everything that comes out of this winery - be it pet-nat, blends of black-white grapes or minimally extracted reds - has elegance and interest in its core. This pet-nat is made from 100% Pinot Gris. Disgorged. Aromas typical of the grape, but not overpowering. Energetic, with so much character.
Going Down Under, Borachio delivers a wine that’s seen some whole-bunch fermentation and some semi-carbonic maceration mixed with direct-press juice for freshness. Zero sulfites added. Cherry-berry fruit is served straight up but then it’s dry and spicy through the finish. Lick of herbal element, in a way and there’s a crisp and refreshing aspect even as the dry spiciness of the tannin takes hold. Heart emojis.
